Traditional style can often be difficult to pin down. Sometimes “traditional” canĀ mean ornate, gilded accessories and embellished fixtures. Other times, “traditional” can mean simple, unfussy, and tailored. Whichever way you choose to go with traditional style, it’s sure to be a space you’re happy in. Check out our tips on how to decorate a traditional style kitchen:
Colors
Create a warm, inviting (and traditional!) kitchen by using a warm neutral color palette. Yellows, warm browns and grays, and yellow-tinted whites are all great colors to use in a traditional style kitchen. If you’d like to bring some bolder color, try using a deep burgundy red as an accent color. Colors shown in the palette above are: warm yellow with a hint of green as the primary (ICS 11-2), fresh white for the trim (NW 1), and neutral accents (from left to right) gray NG 66, brown NG 25, and a soft white with a yellow tint NW 12. Accessories
Elegance meets practicality in a traditional style kitchen. Simple accessories that provide a function like glass oil bottles, decorative jars, and ornate iron wine racks are all beautiful pieces to have in the kitchen. Hand towels with a simple pattern like black and white plaid, blue and white stripes, or floral are all pretty ways to add some color to the room.
Materials
When it comes to accessories stick with glass, crystal, and iron for a classic look. For cabinets and furniture, shiny hardwood gives the room a sophisticated feel while light-colored ceramic tile or linoleum for the flooring will brighten the space up. Simple brass hardware works for this room, or find hardware with decorative detailing for a more ornate feel.
