Creature Comforts: Lobster Love

Tasty Beach Decor

I love seafood. Shrimp, crab, salmon, you name it, if it came from the ocean, I’ll eat it. Lobster, however, is my ultimate favorite. It’s not often I’m willing to fork over the money for this tasty (yet pricey) crustacean, but it’s definitely my go-to meal for special occasions. My love of lobsters doesn’t stop at the dinner table, though!

Not only do I love eating lobsters, I love decorating with them. There’s something so cool about the shape and bright orange color of lobsters that give any home accent a fun, coastal feel. If I lived near the beach, my entire home would probably be covered in lobsters (okay, maybe a few seahorses would find their way into my beach decor, too).

Check out these cute lobster items perfect for adding a little color to your coastal style home:

We are so excited to show off our blog’s new look and name. We thought since spring is the time for fresh starts, spring cleaning, and home makeovers, we’d do a little “spring cleaning” of our own here on the Pure Home blog.

Everything you loved from our old blog, Writing on the Wall, is still here, it just looks a little prettier now! We hope you like it as much as we do.

Style Trend: Watercolor Print Throw Pillows

I love art of most kinds, but lately I’ve been particularly intrigued by watercolor art. An artist friend of my boyfriend’s painted us a small piece using watercolor and ink and I just love the look of it. They both went to college in Reno, Nevada, so not only does it add to our apartment’s artistic feel, it has a personal connection for him, too. Here’s an image of the painting we have hanging in our hallway:

reno artIsn’t it cool? Walking past this beautiful image every day must have left its mark because now I can’t help but search out home accents with watercolor prints! I’m really excited about pillows with this watercolor feel, here are a few of my favorite throw pillow designs:

I like how different each of the patterns on these throw pillows are — I’m not sure which I like best! These are fun, artsy ways to add a little splash of color to the room, but I’d love to find a watercolor print rug, too!

Boys Bedroom Idea: Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

Boys Bedroom Ideas: Baseball Bedroom!

While I am not ready to have kids just yet, it’s fun to think about how I would decorate their rooms when the time comes. My boyfriend loves baseball, so I imagine our imaginary future son would have a really cute baseball-themed room. While I don’t think I would take it as far as this baseball bedroom:

And what’s a baseball-themed bedroom without a few fun accessories?

5 Colorful Kids Bedrooms We Love

Some of the best rooms to play with bright color and fun patterns are kids bedrooms. Kids love bold color and while you may not be up for looking at bright lime green walls with hot pink and orange accents in your living room all of the time, a kids bedroom is the perfect place to let loose with color. Since kids grow so fast, their tastes are ever changing and so can their wall colors!

Check out these 5 colorful kids bedrooms we love and get a little color inspiration for your own home:

lime green and red kids bedroom

Lime Green, Hot Pink, Bold Orange. This bedroom would be perfect for a pre-teen girl’s room. Bold colors paired with playful pattern and texture give this room a very youthful and modern feel. A few touches of white help keep the space balanced.

pink and purple kids room

White, Pink, Orange, Purple. This colorful bedroom is perfect for a more grown-up girl. There is still lots of fun color in the bedding and rug, but the walls are a clean white, perfect for adjusting to the changing tastes of teenagers.

blue kids room

Baby Blue, Kelly Green, Navy Blue. This room is great for twins (note the two beds) and could be great for boys and girls. A clean white trim keeps the room feeling bright while soft blue gives it a soothing and relaxing feel.

pink and orange kids room

Mustard Yellow, Hot Pink, Tangerine Orange. This bedroom is super cute and designed for a girl who knows what she likes — and what she likes are pigs. A neutral rug and wood flooring helps ground this hot-colored room.

lime green and blue kids bedroom

Grass Green, Cloud Blue, Creamy White. This bedroom looks so relaxing! Soft, natural colors remind of a calming day picnicking in the park. These colors can easily be used for both boys and girls bedrooms.

Locals Only Decorating Ideas

Show Your Local Pride!

I’ve moved around quite a bit in my life and I love the idea of having some items to show off all the great places I’ve lived over the years. Before settling here in Seattle, I lived in places all over California, Oregon, and even New York City. I thought it would be fun to put together a little “travel map” of items that represents all of the places I’ve lived over the years. Take a look and tell me how you show off the places you’ve been in your home!
