Daily Design Delight: New Uses for Old Teapots

I love teapots, but I have accrued a collection that is a little out of control. In fact, I have so many tea pots I have a whole shelf in my kitchen devoted to them! My husband has been dropping hints (BIG hints) that it may be time to prune down my tea pot collection.

I understand where he’s coming from, but it’s just so hard to part with my little lovelies, especially since most of them were given to me as presents. So to make us both happy, I did a little searching and found some new ways I can use my tea pots around the house! Check them out:

6 Fun Ways to Use Your Teapot:

  • Fill the bottom with rocks and use the teapot as a planter
  • Put it on your desk and use it as a pen holder
  • Fill it with cut flowers and use it as a table centerpiece
  • Fill the teapot with potpourri and place it in the bathroom as a cute air freshener
  • Make a DIY lamp out of a metal teapot
  • Create your own terrarium inside a clear glass teapot

Do you have any fun ideas on how to use an old teapot? I’d love to hear them!

About Jackie

My husband and I have four children who have flown the nest, so we're planning to redecorate our home to suit our new lifestyle. I want to be able to entertain our friends on a more regular basis, and I’m up for any ideas for how to make my home more inviting. I love input from friends and family, but I need a little more “how-to” direction than just a statement like “you need more color”. Although I do confess a little trouble making firm decisions sometimes, I am happy with traditional styles and rich pieces that portray a romantic and cozy elegance in my home.

I have a beta fish that makes his home in an assortment of glass teapots and pitchers. When the water needs changing, I just transfer the fish to another pot and wash the old one. It is sitting on the bay window above my kitchen sink on a tall glass cake plate. I love it.

That’s such a great idea! I have a beta fish, too, I keep mine in a glass container exactly like this one. Cleaning it out is always such a hassle, I love your idea of switching it up every time you clean the bowl!
