Get the Colors: Soft blue ICS 12-5, creamy beige ICS NW 5, white ICS NW 13, red ICS 12-7, dark blue ICS 16-6.
When I saw this photo I fell in love immediately with the colors and style of the room. I love how the soft blue and creams give the space a really calm, soothing feel, while the bold red accent color brings a dash of interest and energy. I also like how it mixes traditional and global styles together for one really beautiful, cohesive look.
Here’s how I’d use this color scheme throughout my home:
Dining Room
I’d use one of the neutral creams, probably ICS NW 13, for my primary wall color and downplay the blue. I love how the red looks on that little side table so I would like to see more of it in in my dining table and chairs. The pale blue would come in through a plush carpet with a traditional pattern, something like this rug. The dark blue I might bring in through some sheer drapes or centerpiece vase.
Bathroom
Our bathrooms are woefully small, so I wouldn’t want too many colors competing for attention in them. I’d stick to the simple white ICS NW 13 for the walls and use light blue and dark blue towels, bath rugs, and shower curtain to keep the space fresh and clean feeling.
Master Bedroom
I wouldn’t dream about trying to redecorate my kids’ rooms (they’d have a fit!) but I can always switch up our master bedroom. For our bedroom I’d use that soft blue ICS 12-5 as the primary wall color with the same dark blue curtains I used in the dining room to tie the house together. I’d use a white and dark blue comforter or quilt like this one to match the drapes. Of course I’d have more red side tables and maybe even a dresser, too!
Hallway & Entryway
In the entryway I would paint the walls that soft blue, and bring in lots of red to create a warm and welcoming first impression. Picture frames painted red in a gallery wall down the hallway would look amazing, as would a small accent table painted red. That dramatic dark blue would come in through an area rug or small accessories.
Living Room
My living room isn’t for relaxing – it’s for living! Between my husband watching sports and my kids playing video games, it’s probably the most active room in the house. This is the room where I would let that rich red really pop and boost the energy in the space. Being rather traditional, I would keep the sofa a creamy white, but the accent furniture would be painted that rich red like this gorgeous red trunk. I couldn’t resist bringing that soft blue in, too, through a floor pouf or pillows.
I love imagining how I’d use new color schemes in my home, even if I can’t act on every color palette I come across! How would you use these colors in your home?
