The Pink Bathroom Revival – A Blast from the Past
I came across a New York Times article online about a new fascination with pink bathrooms, and I just had to write about it. When I was in junior high and high school, our downstairs bathroom was pink – everything; toilet, tile, bathtub, and sink. I have some good memories in that house, and one of them was the bathroom – it was such a pretty room!
SaveThePinkBathrooms.com is a website with a pledge to preserve vintage pink bathrooms. It all started from the website author’s dismay when HGTV did a makeover of a vintage pink bathroom, tearing out most of the beautiful fixtures in the process.
Apparently, pink bathrooms are trendy again – the Times article explains a couple of reasons why: they are too expensive to remodel, the fixtures are of very high-quality, or people just like them! They say the color makes them happy, and it is also flattering to skin tone. One woman went all the way for 1950s decor, decorating her pink bathroom with old album covers and 40s and 50s posters of pinup-girls.
Now I’m considering renovating my very-white and boring guest bathroom to pink! Let’s not forget that Pantone’s color of the year for 2011 is a pink color…are you thinking pink this year?
