Coffee Table Chat with Courtney: Interview with a Designer

We sat down with Courtney, a member of our implementation team here at Pure Home, to talk about what she loves about home décor, what her favorite pastimes are, and what her dream home would be like. When she’s not at the office, she loves to spend her time refinishing furniture and doing awesome DIY projects. In the future she’ll be sharing some of those projects with us so be sure to check back to see some of the amazing pieces she’s been working on!

What is it about the home décor industry that excites you?

The home décor industry as a whole is constantly evolving and every few decades or so it repeats itself with a modern twist. In almost any look you can recognize a bit of the past along with the present and the future. With this notion in mind, it is then possible to tell a story with design, creating an expressive and meaningful space to come home to. It is amazing to me how much a space can affect one’s overall state of being, to be part of that experience is truly fulfilling.

What exactly do you do at Pure Home?

I am a designer working as part of the implementation team. I create profiles for each of the products we bring onto our website. It is important to classify each item where style, durability, room placement, and color is concerned. We use the information we have on each product to provide relevant suggestions to our users so that they will have a positive assisted shopping experience.

If you could describe your dream home in three words, what would they be?

Lived-in, self-created, expressive.

What are five home items you couldn’t live without?

  1. Throw pillows. They can be easily swapped out for an easy, fresh, and updated look.
  2. My flea market finds. Each piece has two stories: where it was before I found it and where I was when I found it.
  3. My picture frames from Dryads Dancing. They are made from reclaimed architectural scraps and old tin roofs…so shabby…yet so chic!
  4. The Adirondack chairs on my front porch get a lot of love.
  5. The coffee table my boyfriend and I made is epic. It is made from old poplar with industrial metal legs. The live edge is so beautiful…the thought of not having it makes me feel very sad.

What’s one piece of decorating advice you’d give to someone just starting out?

In order to feel like you are “at home” you must put yourself into your home. Rummage through old photographs, letters, postcards, and posters. Create a gallery using like-colored frames to display your memories in a thoughtful and interesting way. I like to use thin metal frames with predominant white or beige matting. Your guests will want to stop and look at each one — guaranteed.
